During Wednesday night’s episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live!, New Line Cinema decided to premiere the first trailer for its upcoming Shaft reboot, starring Samuel L. Jackson.
The film, which is a sequel to the 2000 remake, finds Shaft’s son (Jessie Usher) surprisingly coming back into his life and needing his dad’s help. It follows JJ, aka John Shaft Jr., trying to uncover the truth behind his best friend’s untimely death, asking and needing some help only his father can provide. The description for the movie reads: "Absent throughout JJ’s youth, the legendary locked-and-loaded John Shaft (Jackson) agrees to help his progeny navigate Harlem’s heroin-infested underbelly. And while JJ’s own FBI analyst’s badge may clash with his dad’s trademark leather duster, there’s no denying family. Besides, Shaft’s got an agenda of his own, and a score to settle that’s professional and personal."
The movie is set to star Regina Hall, Alexandra Shipp, Matt Lauria, Titus Welliver, Cliff “Method Man” Smith, and Avan Jogia.
Look for Shaft to hit theaters June 14. Watch the first trailer for it below.
