It was previously reported back in March that Adult Swim would be holding some sort of "cultural festival," and that cross-country rap duo Run The Jewels would be headlining it. Now, we have a better idea as to what form that will take, with the announcement of the first ever, Adult Swim Festival.
Posted on Adult Swim's Instagram this morning was a partial line-up for the two day festival. So far, the headliners of the festival include Run The Jewels, as predicted, bass-wizard Thundercat, as well as permanently relaxed stand-up comic, Hannibal Buress. The festival promises to be a music and comedy extravaganza, and Adult Swim will continue to reveal new acts as the months go by, leading up to the festival on October 6-7 in Los Angeles.
Adult Swim has always made music a huge part of their brand as a channel. Some artists, like Flying Lotus, have made their careers off getting their music featured on the network, and others have been signed by them directly, Run The Jewels being the prime example. They also have made it a point to put out new tracks weekly with their "Adult Swim Singles" program.
The line up is only partially filled in, so right now one can only speculate as to who will be announced. Given the fact that he's already had two different TV shows on the network, Tyler the Creator would be a strong bet to be included. A less likely option would be MF Doom, who once collaborated with the channel's cartoon characters on his The Mouse and the Mask album.
Check out the line up below.
