Last week, Meek Mill was hit with a harsh sentence of between two and four years of hard time. The sentence caused a ripple of controversy throughout the community, with many speaking out against what they perceived to be an unwarranted and biased verdict from the judge. And while many were quick to adapt the viral #FreeMeek hashtag in hopes of spreading awareness, others are actively taking to the streets in support, including one Rick Ross. Over the weekend, it was announced that a "Rally For Meek" would be taking place this afternoon, with the event being promoted by Big Sean, Freeway, Waka Flocka, A$AP Ferg, and more. Now, it has been revealed that Rick Ross will be one of the biggest names in attendance, having flown into Philadelphia for the important cause.
According to TMZ, Ross flew in with NBA legend Julius Irving, also known as Dr. J, in order to lead the crusade for Meek's freedom. The event looks to bring in several high profile entertainers, and reports also indicate that some of the Philadelphia Eagles are slated to appear, including Malcolm Jenkins and Vinny Curry. Philadelphia emcee Freeway is set to appear, and for what it's worth, the "Rally For Meek" has also been shared by Kevin Hart and Diddy, though it's unclear if they will be in attendance. Either way, the full list of participants has been revealed, which you can check out via the poster below.
Not only is Rick Ross one of hip-hop's biggest bosses, but Yung Renzel is also loyal to his protégés. It's still uncertain whether or not this Rally will actually amount to anything other than a symbolic win for the incarcerated Meek, but it's a powerful gesture nevertheless. In the meantime, keep spreading that #FreeMeek hashtag, and if you're in the Philadelphia area, maybe consider showing your support in person.
