The people have been demanding justice for Rayshard Brooks after he was shot and killed in a Wendy's parking lot last week. Though the officers involved faced repercussions within the workplace, Fulton County District Attorney Paul Howard held a press conference today announcing that he would be formally laying charges against Garrett Rolfe and Devin Brosnan.
Garrett and Brosnan responded to a 911 call about a man who fell asleep in his vehicle in the drive-thru of a Wendy's in Atlanta that resulted in Brooks' death. Howard said that Garrett kicked Brooks while he was on the ground while Brosnan stood on Brooks' shoulder as he was dying. “Mr Brooks was running away at the time the shot was fired," Howard said.
Warrants have been issued for the arrests of both officers. Garrett was charged with felony murder and several other charges while Brosnan is being charged for aggravated assault and two other counts.
Howard said that Garrett responded, "I got him," after gunning Brooks down while neither officer provided medical attention for nearly two minutes. Howard added the officers' demeanor "did not reflect any fear or danger of Mr. Brooks, but reflected other kinds of emotions."
Brosnan, in an unexpected turn of events, has agreed to be the state's witness and reportedly already provided testimony to the court to build the case.
