At January 18 at 10 pm ET, NBC has committed to air a special episode of Dateline in which the panel will reveal previously unheard details regarding his sexual misconduct allegations. The "new details" as they've been purported, were obtained in an exclusive interview segment with one of R. Kelly's former interns - for the first time on live television.
To top it off, Dateline has enlisted NBC News anchor Andrea Canning to moderate a discussion(s) with several other women who will come forward with their account Kelly's allegedly abusive behavior, which includes an exclusive conversation with the Tim and Jonjelyn, the parents of Joycelyn Savage, a woman the singer is suspected of holding in captivity (against her will).
Dateline hopes their decision to include R. Kelly's own attorney, Steven Greenberg, will help them air on the side of objectivity. Greenberg, representing his client's best wishes, will again pass on Kelly's undying "plausible deniability."
Dateline NBC is the longest-running primetime series in NBC's broadcast history, going on 27 seasons. The special "R. Kelly" episode will be anchored by Lester Holt with features mediated by Andrea Canning, Josh Mankiewicz, Keith Morrison, and Dennis Murphy. Be sure to tune in on Friday, if you, like countless others, feel resigned to the coverage.
