R. Kelly has a load of legal issues that he's had to deal with over the past few months. For one, the release of Surviving R. Kelly resulted in the disgraced singer getting charged with 10 counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse involving minors. Additionally, he's been in and out of the clink due to issues pertaining to child support issues. Last month, the rapper paid up $62K in back child support, dodging jail time and clearly, he's trying to keep it that way.
According to TMZ, R. Kelly went to court and coughed up enough dough to cover the next two months of child support. The singer's lawyer confirmed that he paid $41,666 to cover June and July's child support payments to his ex-wife, Drea Kelly. Kelly's paid $20,833 every month since January 2009.
Even with the two months of child support payments being paid ahead of time, the singer was informed at his last hearing that he owed Drea an additional $32K for interest on the back child support. The judge never made a concrete decision whether Kelly needs to pay back the interest but it doesn't look like Kellz has any intention to, either way.
"At no point in the foreseen future do we see paying interest of child support. As of May 14, 2019 Mr. Kelly is current on support payments," Kelly's crisis manager, Darrell Johnson, told the publication.
