Sex cults. Underage women. Peeing. The closest we've come to a hip-hop horror story in a lifetime. Yet this is not fiction. Such is the narrative surrounding divisive RnB legend R. Kelly, who has consistently found himself embroiled in the most abhorrent controversies. By now, you've heard tale of his alleged antics, ranging from the despicable, to the dubious, to the downright criminal. Yet the truth has always remained murky, especially given the fact that Kelly himself has rarely weighed in to give his perspective. Until now. And weigh in he does, with nineteen minutes straight of confessional.
Not since "Trapped In The Closet" have we heard R. Kelly at his most unrestrained. Over an unchanging yet admittedly solid instrumental, Kelly lays down some emotional vocals, going deep into the many pitfalls he's found himself navigating. Not only does he address the infamous "pedophile" claims, but he also talks about his experience being molested, his encounter with Wendy Williams, and of course, the accusations of running a brain-washing sex cult. It's certainly a complicated song, and may send your moral compass fighting to fly in two simultaneous directions.
Perhaps the more deplorable accusations against Kellz are indeed true, and all this is for naught. Still, it does remain, at the very least, somewhat compelling to hear his side of the lengthy saga. And lets be honest here. Even when R. Kelly is dealing with the darkest of subject matter, his naive and casual approach to questioning life's greater mysteries tend to elicit some of the biggest reluctant laughs.
Quotable Lyrics
What's the definition of a cult?
Whats the definition of a sex slave?
Go to the dictionary, look it up
Let me know I'll be here waiting
Now I admit that I got some girls that love me to pull they hair
Now I admit that they love me to talk dirty when I pull they hair (
Some like me to spank 'em
Some like to give brain and
What some of these girls want, is too much for the radio station
Look I'm just a man y'all, not a monster or beast
But I admit there are times when these girls so fine, they'll chill with a n***a for a week
