It's been a jaw-dropping year in terms of the number of sexual assault and rape allegations that came to light from the world of Hollywood actors and movie moguls. Things really began to heat up after Harvey Weinstein, a former movie executive who created the careers for many stars, saw more than 30 women come forward with graphic tales of their inappropriate encounters with the 65-year-old from many years ago.
Matt Damon got intertwined into the headlines when a woman alleged the Good Will Hunting actor tried to squash a report back in 2004 that detailed sexual misconduct performed by Harvey. He recently told Deadline he would "never, ever, ever try to kill a story like that" but that's not stopping the women who have created a petition to have him removed from the upcoming Oceans 8.
The anticipated film boasts a mostly female cast and the petition notes that "Damon's inclusion would trivialize the serious nature of the charges against sexual abusers like Weinstein — a show massive disrespect for the brave women speaking out."
"I'm calling on Oceans 8 producers George Clooney and Steven Soderbergh to toss Damon's Oceans 8 cameo where it belongs: on the cutting room floor," the description ends. As of right now there are 20,645 supporters, not far from its goal of 25,000.
