Multi-talented pop star Justin Timberlake is going to be the scheduled entertainment for the halftime show at Super Bowl 52. Making the announcement with the help of Jimmy Fallon, JT is set to make his return to the NFL's main stage during North America's biggest sports telecast, doing so for the first time since his infamous appearance alongside Janet Jackson in 2004. "Nipplegate" was one of the last pre-social media scandals that everyone seemed to have an opinion on back in the day and, as it turns out, some members of the hip-hop community still do. Take, for example, O.T. Genasis.
The rapper who's best known for being in love with the "coco" spoke to TMZ recently and shared his feelings about Timberlake performing at the big game, which is set to go down on February 4th, 2018. As he states, he doesn't really get too hyped up for the big, glitzy event that is the Super Bowl, but when asked about Janet Jackson's previous contributions to the world's biggest 15-minute concert, he had only one word to describe it: "amazing." He also thinks that bringing her back to perform part of the show with Timberlake would help create a bit of excitement around this prestigious event.
The TMZ photog pressed Genasis on whether or not he'd be down to perform at one of the Super Bowl's upcoming halftime shows, and his response was uninspired. "At this point, with what's going on right now, no," he said. "There's just too much craziness going on, man." The reply seemed to indicate a small nod to the kneeling protests that have dominated the conversation about the NFL and the league's treatment of its own players. In fact, there are rumors that more than one potential halftime performer turned down the gig for that very reason. At the end of the day, Genasis has his reasons for not getting behind the mic at the Super Bowl, but those on social media are still waiting for JT to delve into his reasons for doing so himself.
