OG Ron C, DJ Candlestick, and The Chopstars have chopped up just about all of the best hip-hop releases this year. It's amazing how they can soak just about any sound in the DJ Screw-inspired Houston sauce while still retaining the key elements of the original mix -- even revealing new details that might've gone unnoticed before the chopping process. There were a couple of big releases that they hadn't slowed and throwed yet -- the main one being VIEWS, as their OVO-approved reworks of Drake records are always entrancing. Before Codeine Views, though, The Chopstars have decided to surprise their fans by taking on another one of the year's biggest releases, Kanye West's The Life of Pablo. They have called their reimagined product The Chops of Pablo.
They've chopped up most every track that appeared on the original (sans-"Saint Pablo") version of The Life of Pablo, and they even add a couple of bonus tracks, such as one that finds them chopping up a sample of Sister Nancy's "Bam Bam" over the "Real Friends" instrumental. There are many dazzling creative flourishes that pop up throughout The Chops of Pablo. The tape ends with a 26-minute chop of "30 Hours." Press play and prepare for your mind to melt into a purple sludge within minutes.
