Officer Amber Guyger has recently been fired by the Dallas Police Department after fatally shooting her neighbor Botham Shem Jean.

Amber Guyger is a Dallas police officer facing manslaughter charges for the murder of her unarmed neighbor, Botham Shem Jean. Guyger claimed that she mistakenly entered Jean's Dallas apartment on the night of September 6, under the impression that she had entered her own home. Gyger believed she was confronted with an intruder and proceeded to shoot Jean. A statement released by the Dallas Police Department informs that shooting took place at 10 PM local time. Moments after, Jean was pronounced dead.

Chief of the Dallas Police Department, U. Reneé Hall recently released a statement stating her decision to terminate Guyger. The statement reads "Dallas Police Chief  U. Reneé Hall has terminated Police Officer Amber Guyer, #1072, during a hearing held September 24, 2018. An Internal Affairs Investigation concluded that on September 9, 2018, Officer Guyger, #10702, engaged in adverse conduct when she was arrested for manslaughter."

Reports reveal the Guyger turned herself into the police three days after the shooting occurred. She was charged for manslaughter -a less grievous charge than murder - and subsequently released. As the recent statement indicates, Guyger is still in a position to appeal Hall’s decision and is free look for work at another police department while she is out on bail. Many are conflicted by the news and await the final verdict in the troubling case.

An independent investigation is being conducted by the Dallas County district attorney's office to present a case to the grand jury that will determine Guyger's fate once she is called to court.
