Among the artists ensuring we start the year off right (so far, Future), NoName has also decided to release a brand new song today. She actually announced that fans could expect a new song come January 1st, 2019 on twitter the day after Christmas. Lo and behold.
The single is called "Song 31," and it's the first thing she's released since her heavily-praised Room 25 album in September. NoName became the first woman ever to have Metacritic's highest rated album of the year, thanks to Room 25. Perhaps unsurprisingly, the album has made many a year end list. It's been a pretty impactful year for the Chicago native, and with the recognition of her talent firmly in place, her 2019 will likely be even better.
"Song 31" is free-flowing and jazzy, recalling an era bygone. NoName's flow seems to be in a constant lingering state of slowing down or picking up speed, alongside the beat. She uses the record to reflect on everything from her career's trajectory to consumerism. The song closes with a lengthy instrumental outro. Take a listen and let us know what you think.
You can catch NoName on tour in support of Room 25. Check the dates here.
Quotable Lyrics
I sell pain for profit
And I feel profit watching
Everything is for everything
Rhymin' with casualty
I know labels is backing me but
My tickets be selling out
And I'm steady raising my fetus
Another hit from the fee
