Welcome back, Nicki Minaj.

With #NickiDay trending on Twitter, it's likely that the return of Nicki Minaj is only beginning. After a lengthy absence left Barbz in shambles, the iconic rapper announced her impending return with the back-to-back release of two singles. Now, in the wake of a Beats 1 premiere, Nicki's return is cemented with "Chun-Li." Named after the legendary Street Fighter character, the latest single finds Nicki flexing her pen game with a ferocity reminiscent of a practiced and memorized combo; no button mashing here.

Over a hypnotic, exotic banger (complete with dazed, clownlike saxophone wails) Nicki absolutely unloads a welcome bout of lyrical flexing. It's not to say that she has anything to prove, as she's already solidified herself a formidable presence in the game. Yet it feels like she's rejuvenated, focused, and hungry. As they say, absence makes the heart grow fonder. Throughout the three minute lyrical onslaught, Nicki delivers an onslaught that's certain to please those who still cherish "Monster." Consider the swagger back, if it ever departed at all.

Clearly, the game has missed her. Even if you don't count yourself a die-hard Nicki fan, there's something assuring about once again seeing her name on the charts. It's been a long time, she shouldn't have left us. Luckily, she seems to have come back with something to prove, and it's most definitely evident in her latest drop.

Quotable Lyrics

Look like I'm goin' for a swim
Dunked off em now I'm swinging off the rim
Bitch ain't comin off the bench
While I'm comin' off the court fully drench
Here goes some haterade get your thirst quenched
Styled on em in this Burberry trench
