The era of the Hip-Hop documentary is certainly among us, and now Netlfix will be adding onto the lagacy as they get ready to roll out their latest Rapture docu-series.
Produced by Mass Appeal, the new show will dissect hip-hop through the perspectives of prominent artists that include Nas, T.I., Dave East, Rapsody, Logic, G-Eazy, Just Blaze, and 2 Chainz as it gives viewers a look at what Netflix describes as "the artists' lives with their families and friends, to sitting front row in the studio and grinding on tour, to experiencing the ecstatic power of moving the crowd."
"Way back, when hip hop culture was in its gestational phase, the powerful message therein didn’t go much further than the five boroughs of New York City. Today, rap music is the heartbeat of Mother Earth, and Netflix is the embodiment of the eyes from which she sees,” director Sacha Jenkins noted in a press release. “It is a great honor for Mass Appeal to work with Netflix to produce our new series Rapture. We’ve been telling hip hop stories since ’96, and as natives we feel it is our duty to do the movement justice. Rapture is bangin’. Straight up.”
In addition to Jenkins, other members of the directing team include Ben Selkow, Getta Gandbhir, Steven Caple Jr., Marcus A. Clarke, and Gabriel Noble. Escutive producer credits are given to Jenkins, Selkow, Peter Bittenbender, Ben Cotner, Zana Lawrence, and Lisa Nishimura.
