Meek Mill has always been one to give back. From donating to the Flint water crisis in 2016 & Colin Kaepernick’s fundraiser earlier this year to giving away turkeys at Thanksgiving every year and giving thousands to his high school and Philly locals, Meek has been more than generous with his money and time throughout his career, and he’s still not done making a difference in his community. According to TMZ, the MMG rapper is now donating 6,000 backpacks to the kids in Philadelphia as they get ready to go back to school this year.
Meek's teaming up with Puma, sports apparel Fanatics, United Legwear and Philly's luxury store Milano Di Rogue to donate the bags. There will be two different types of bags, some for elementary kids and some for high school students. The elementary bags with include pencil sharpeners, rulers and crayons, while high schoolers will get dry erase markers, notebooks, pens, and apparently glue sticks.
Meek told TMZ he knows what it feels like to come from a struggling family who couldn't afford school supplies. "Those memories stay with me and that’s why I’m committed to giving back to families in my hometown, putting smiles on kids’ faces and helping them start the school year on the right note with the right supplies,” he said.
And if that’s not cool enough, Meek is also rumored to be surprising some of the kids on Wednesday by personally handing out the bags himself. However it's unknown where he'll be, but we'll continue to keep you posted moving forward.
