The Mayans are sticking around.

After airing just four episodes of Mayans MC, FX has decided to renew the show for a second season. The series is a spin-off of Sons of Anarchy, one of the best shows to come from FX. With series such as The Shield, Atlanta, Always Sunny in Philadelphia, and Rescue Me all in the FX catalog, being one of their top shows of all time is no easy feat. It would be an even harder task to gain the same success twice, but Kurt Sutter and Elgin James appear to be on the right track.

As reported by VarietyFX decided to renew Mayans MC after the season premiere became the highest rated cable series this year. “Mayans MC is performing fantastically, proving to be a breakout first season,” Co-President of Original Programming for FX Networks and FX Productions Nick Grad told Variety. “The series premiered as the highest rated cable series this year and continues to sustain a committed fan base, reflecting the talent and drive of creators Kurt Sutter and Elgin James. We couldn’t be more excited to take this ride to a second season.”

Mayans MC takes place two years after the events of Sons of Anarchy, and follows Ezekiel “EZ” Reyez as a prospect for the Mayans in the Cali/Mexican fictional border town of Santo Pedro.
