Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg surpassed Warren Buffet to earn third place spot.

"If you ain't first, you're last" is probably not what Mark Zuckerberg is thinking after being named the third richest person in the world by Bloomberg. The ranking as number three on the list puts Zuckerberg ahead of the famous philanthropist and investor Warren Buffet by $373 million, behind Bill Gates in second place and Amazon's Jeff Bezos in first. According to CNN, Zuckerberg has committed (following in the footsteps of Buffet, the previous third-place holder) to donating 99% of his Facebook shares to charity. In dollars that percentage ends up being $45 million. His total worth is now clocked at $81.6 billion.

The rise in Zuckerberg's worth is due to a 2.4% rise in Facebook's stock, which this year has risen a total of 15%. As of Zuckerberg's occupying third place, the top three richest people on earth are, for the first time ever, people who have made their fortunes in tech. This could perhaps mean a larger shift away from Buffet's field (finance) towards technology, leaving the investors as simply the financial backers of Silicon Valley. Buffet himself has, in recent years, bought up a lot of Apple stock at his company Berkshire Hathaway (75 million, actually).

Congratulations to Mark Zuckerberg, next up: Bill Gates.
