In many ways, Machine Gun Kelly has come to embody the rockstar archetype, keeping traditions alive through open indulgence in the holy grail: sex, drugs, and rock & roll. Between Binge, his drumming prowess, portrayal of Tommy Lee, and Eagles-homaging album title (Hotel Diablo), Gunner has worn his influences like a badge of honor. Today, MGK's new single "Hollywood Whore" has released in select international markets, teasing a sonic aesthetic nearing "rap-rock" in the grand scheme of things. Driven by a hard-hitting drum & guitar riff evocative of Linkin Park's "Numb," Gunner opens up about the dangers of succumbing to the temptation of Hollywood glitz.
While the production may prove inherently divisive, it appears that MGK's bars haven't suffered in the slightest. Gunner gets introspective on his own journey, addressing a metaphorical figure responsible for stripping his soul to the core. Despite the fact that their currently bitter rivals, it's kind of reminiscent of Eminem's modern day, pre-Kamikaze sound and thematic content. Perhaps they might have been such friends, in another life. In any case, be sure to check out "Hollywood Whore" now, and sound off below. Will you be checking for Hotel Diablo?
Quotable Lyrics
It's time to cut my lawn I see the snakes
It's time to tell the truth to every fan
Who doesn't understand that it's because of you they had to wait
While you left me here to deal with all the hate
I still smile but feel so fake
It's no sun that clouds the opaque
