There are many ways that artists judge how they "made it." It could be snatching that feature from a fellow artist that they admire or watching as one of their singles break through the Billboard charts. For others like Lizzo, real name Melissa Jefferson, fame may come in the form of 4.8 million views on YouTube for her video "Juice." The Detroit-born, Houston-raised rapper-singer-songwriter is preparing to release her third studio album, Cuz I Love You on April 19, but she never expected that her lyrics would one day find their way into the Marvel Universe.
It was a normal Tuesday evening for Lizzo until a fan tweeted her, asking if she knew that a few lines from her track "Good As Hell" were in a comic. “@lizzo did you see your Marvel Comics debut in Unstoppable Wasp #4?” Bringing receipts, the person even attached a photo so Lizzo could check it out for herself. In the panels of the comic, Nadia Van Dyne, a superhero who is able to shrink herself and also fly around with wings like a wasp, is working on something important and says, "No distractions" before her phone begins to ring. “I do my hair toss, check my nails" is her ringtone, the lyrics to Lizzo's "Good As Hell."
"WAIT BITCH WHET?! 😱" was Lizzo's response. It's no surprise that her talents have reached all the way to Marvel considering she's an international star who will be gracing stages in the U.S. and abroad throughout 2019. “I just have a s**t ton of shows and festivals," Lizzo told NME. "I’m coming back to London and Manchester. I’m doing Lovebox Festival and Glastonbury but I don’t think that’s announced so, whatever – you just got the scoop, b***h.”
