Mohamed Salah rewrote English Premier League history this afternoon in a 4-nil victory over Brighton. The Egyptian striker recorded the first goal on the day, his 32nd of the campaign, bringing his tally to 44 goals in all competitions (including Cup ties & Champions League). The in-demand striker has been revelation this term. His last stint in the EPL under Jose Mourinho was deemed a failed experiment. Mourinho was utilizing him as a winger, which by all accounts was a mistake. Mohamed Salah in the "number 9" role, has revitalized a Liverpool which has been mediocre by its standards, for the better part of a decade.
The single Season goal scoring record (in a 38-game campaign) was previously held by ex-Liverpool striker Luis Suarez (2013-2014), Manchester United's Cristiano Ronaldo (2007-08), and England legend Alan Shearer (1995-96). Technically speaking, both Andy Cole and Alan Shearer both recorded campaigns of 34 goals scored, but they did so in 42 games, giving Salah a distinction all his own.
Salah has already collected PFA Player of the Year and Football Writers' Association Player of the Year awards on the way to a second place finish in the standings. Salah and his cohorts have also reached the Champions League taking place in a few weeks, after which he will rest up for a few weeks before suiting up in his National colours in this summer's World Cup. Egypt hasn't qualified for the tournament since the 1990 edition in Italia.
