Lil Yachty has shared more new music on Instagram in advance of his upcoming mixtape Lil Boat 2. Paired with some stylish shots of Yachty and TheGoodPerry delivering a lively performance as confetti falls in slow motion, the track features a punchy, minimal instrumental that in some ways feels like a throwback to "I Think I Luv Her" Gucci Mane. "I might ice my AK out / I might ice my steering wheel," brags Yachty, before repeating the mantra "Flex for the fuckboys / hate 'cause you suck, boy."
Yachty released his official debut album Teenage Emotions in May. In August, he announced that a sequel to his breakthrough 2016 mixtape Lil Boat was on the way. Perhaps acknowledging his early fans' lack of enthusiasm for his Teenage Emotions material, Yachty made a promise on Twitter: "I know what y'all want.. Lil boat 2 gone be fire.. all Ima say."
The music we've heard from Yachty since the announcement has been more akin to his SoundCloud rap sound he helped pioneer than the varied experiments of his debut. In that way, it seems it will keep the spirit of the first Lil Boat alive. Over the last few months, he's collaborated with Ski Mask The Slump God, Father, Maklemore, Playboi Carti, and Yung Gleesh. He's also previewed new music with new SoundCloud sensation Lil Pump, which is expected to land on Lil Boat 2.
There's still no official release date for Lil Boat 2, but as we saw in 2016 with Lil Boat and Summer Songs 2, it's not out of the ordinary for Yachty to drop two projects in one year. Stay tuned.
