Lil Uzi Vert went the most 'rock' he's gone on us yet with his latest body of work, Luv is Rage 2. The album clearly shows a progression into darker, rock-inspired sounds, however is not fully there yet. That's still to come, as the rapper announced his rock album was in the works the day Luv is Rage 2 dropped.
Luv is Rage 2 debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200 album chart, making it a success off the bat, while Uzi has been providing commentary in reference to the album on twitter, bit by bit, assuring fans the album will grow on you. Finally, yesterday, the Philly native debuted the official music video for his biggest single to date, "XO Tour Lif3," directed by Off-White's Virgil Abloh (whose branding also appears on the Luv is Rage 2 album artwork). The music video appears in a purple hue, with foreign subtitles and appearances from the XO camp (it's only right).
Uzi has been outspoken in his fandom for Marilyn Manson, he' paid tribute in more ways than one, but perhaps the most lavish was getting this diamond-encrusted chain made of the controversial artist. His appreciation for Manson has been tied into various conspiracy theories about the rapper, which we explored here (a must-read if you haven't yet)-- Uzi himself has referred to Manson as his "evil twin." Marilyn Manson, for his part, hasn't been as outspoken in his appreciation for Uzi, but Uzi confirmed that the two connected IRL during his Zane Lowe interview, saying "We just be like turnt up, but like turnt up in a professional, unguided way," of their time spent together. We may get a collaboration one day soon, by the sounds/looks of it-- Uzi also recently shared a photo of himself and Manson.
Finally, though, Manson is returning the public appreciation. Although it wasn't over-the-top, Manson tweeted out in a show of support and approval, the visual for Uzi's "XO Tour Lif3" record. The title of the piece he tweets likens the two artists together, too -- "Lil Uzi Vert Goes Full Marilyn Manson" it reads.
Lil Uzi Vert retweeted it, unsurprisingly. Who wants to hear these two collaborate, for real?
