Over the course of the last two weeks, Lil Nas X has gained a massive amount of fans because of all the controversy surrounding his hit single "Old Town Road." The song was originally listed as a country tune, charting pretty well on Billboard before it was announced that the rapper would be removed from chart contention because the single does not contain enough "classic country" elements. Sure, he's got trap drums and he may not be a typical country artist but it seems pretty messed up that he would be removed from the chart altogether. We addressed the controversy here. As for the young star's next single, it doesn't sound like he'll be facing any drama on the country charts because the Take A Daytrip produced banger will likely be hitting the hip-hop chart instead.
Aside from "Old Town Road," Lil Nas X has previously released a catalog of songs that do not fall under the country umbrella. His next track will be travelling back to what he knows best: rapping. The upcoming single still shows off the artist's versatility with Nas X choosing not to rap over a typical trap beat. There are rock elements in the hook with Nas X seemingly trying to emulate Kurt Cobain's iconic "In Bloom" melodies.
