With 2017's Wonder Woman being a huge hit with audiences, the DC Extended Universe should do everything in its power to ensure the sequel is equally good, if not better. Gal Gadot's portrayal of the titular Wonder Woman is a prime example that women can be powerful protagonists in financially-successful films. Moreover, the film made a cultural impact. To add to the female creative team, this morning it was officially announced that Kristen Wiig would be joining the sequel's cast.
After rumors were circulating earlier this month, director Patty Jenkins confirmed the big news online. "So excited to confirm the most thrilling news. Yes! It's true!" said Jenkins in a tweet this morning. "So incredibly lucky to welcome the sensationally talented Kristen Wiig to our Wonder Woman family. Can't wait to finally work with one of my favorites. And so excited by what we have planned. #Cheetah!!! @GalGadot."
The news seems to be welcomed by fans. The announcement tweet has over 4000 retweets and nearly 13,000 likes. Wiig is known for her comedy work, so it will be interesting to see her depict a serious character. Production begins this May, and you'll be able to see it all come together in November 2019.
