Kim Kardashian West recently attended the 2018 MTV Movie & TV Awards on June 16th and her red carpet get-up included a new hairstyle that saw her long locks in braids. Of course, many people were pissed about her hair choice and accused her of cultural appropriation.
Kim had a KKW Beauty pop-up in Los Angeles yesterday and was asked about the recent backlash where she admitted that she didn't know people were even mad. "I actually did that look because North said she wanted braids and asked if I would do them with her," she said. "So we braided her hair and then we braided my hair."
Kim previously got heat for rocking blonde braids and calling them "Bo Derek braids" and she said she remembered that whole controversy, adding how she's "not tone deaf."
"Maybe if I had come out and explained that from the beginning instead of calling them 'Bo Derek braids,' then it wouldn't have gotten such backlash. But in no way am I ever trying to disrespect anyone's culture by wearing braids," she said. "If anything, my daughter was so excited to see me get matching braids with her. [When] we did her hair in these braids, she was so excited."
