Carol Danvers crash-landed into the Marvel Cinematic Universe as the most powerful hero in the long chain of MCU films. If you haven't seen the movie yet, beware, mild spoilers can be found below. Captain Marvel is projected to hit $1 billion at the worldwide box office by the time it leaves theaters, and Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige couldn't be more proud. The MCU is slowly lining up their next wave of main heroes, with Black Panther, Doctor Strange, and Captain Marvel leading the pack. The three characters can easily replace Thor, Iron-Man, and Captain America as the MCU trinity. Think about it. Doctor Strange can take Thor's place, since they both deal with the mystical side of things and wield powerful weapons (Thor's Hammer, Strange's Infinity Gem). Black Panther can take Iron-Man's place as the wealthy hero with a super suit that has an empire to look after. Then Captain Marvel can take Captain America's place as the soldier with a heart of gold that spent years missing in action.
Kevin Feige recently sat down with ScreenRant to discuss the future of the MCU in connection to Captain Marvel. In the film, we see Carol fly away with Talos at the conclusion. She spends decades missing in action before returning to help the Avengers in Endgame, and Feige hints at what she has been doing the entire time. "I mean, I think one of the things that's fun to us about the timeline of this film and the potential of future stories with these characters is there's a great past, not just of Mar-Vell, but of the entire Skrull/Kree conflict and also this gap of history between when Carol Danvers flew off with Talos at the end, spoiler, and when she arrives with the Avengers," stated Feige. His statement lines up with some leaked information about Endgame that claims Carol tells War Machine that she's been dealing with planets who don't have heroes to protect them since she's been missing. "The answer is revealed and hinted at in this movie as she was dealing with a colossal, universal conflict in another section of the MCU," Feige continued. Of course, he's talking about the interstellar Skrull/Kree war that ravages the entire universe. It appears that Captain Marvel sequels will dive into Carol's adventures within this war before she meets up with the Avengers.
