New details surrounding Kendrick Lamar's acting role on tomorrow's episode of Power have emerged. According to The Wrap, showrunner Courtney Kemp let a few details slip during the Television Critics Association press tour. Apparently the decision to include Kendrick wasn't based on his drawing power. The TDE figurehead personally asked 50 Cent for a cameo role. Kemp says the exchange went a little something like this:
“What happened was [50 Cent] was like, 'Kendrick had mentioned he wanted to be on the show'," Kemp recalled. "And then I got on the phone with Kendrick and said, 'What do you want to play?'" Kendrick collected his thoughts then answered something to the effect of a junkie or drug addict, Kemp wouldn't him verbatim for some odd reason.
So then Sophia Derry of the writing team went and created a character for Kendrick Lamar with a corruptible nature. The new character is expected to help 50 Cent's "Kanan" wipe out his enemies. Many fans of the show believe Kanan will be the last man standing if all the factions go to war. Courtney Kemp said it was always their intention to find a character capable of "killing a bunch of ‘tinos” at Kanan's behest.
Tune in this Sunday at 8pm.
