Kendrick Lamar's acclaimed catalog of music, which includes Good Kid mAAD City, To Pimp A Butterfly, and DAMN, has officially found a new home. It has been reported that K Dot has signed a publishing deal with BMI (Broadcast Music Inc), and a long-term one at that.
BMI is no stranger to TDE, as it currently houses the work of ScHoolboy Q, SZA, Jay Rock, Isaiah Rashad, and Lance Skiiiwalker. Kendrick was previously represented by Warner/Chappell Music, and it's unclear why he decided to switch things up. Perhaps the shared presence of his labelmates was a deal-sweetener, as we've long known Kendrick to be an advocate for "Loyalty."
Mike Steinberg, the executive vice president of Creative & Licensing at BMI offered a few words on Kendrick's new deal. “We’re thrilled to welcome Kendrick to the BMI family and expand our great working relationship with Top Dawg Entertainment and its incredibly talented roster,” he says, in a statement. "Kendrick’s gift for writing and performing such stunningly impactful music has solidified his stature among the world’s greatest artists and, without a doubt, as a major force in our industry for many years to come. We’re honored that he has chosen BMI to represent his creative works.”
Congrats to Kendrick for his latest money move. While it may be a stretch, perhaps the move signifies that Kendrick is on the verge of readying an album. It wouldn't be surprising to see a follow-up to DAMN in the coming months. We're just about due.
