Today is a big day for Keke Palmer as she's just announced the release date for her new film. Executive produced by Lee Daniels, Keke will be starring in Pimp, where she plays a struggling pimp named Wednesday who is trying to escape the game. Palmer shared the trailer on her Instagram page, letting everybody know that they'll be able to watch the full movie when it premieres on November 9.
Keke plays a lesbian hustler in the Bronx, living the only life she's ever known. Her character's mother was a prostitute and her father was a pimp. Palmer spoke to Entertainment Weekly about the upcoming film, saying, "The movie is really a coming-of-age love story with a backdrop of the pimp industry." Palmer notes that she heard about the role after spending much of her early career acting in children's shows. "I’d just turned 18, I’d been working a lot with Nickelodeon and Disney Channel, and I really was looking for some cool, interesting projects that could give me the opportunity to show different female characters. I wanted to do something different and give a voice to a character that really doesn’t often get a voice."
Pimp is directed by Christine Crokos. DMX also has a role in the film, which will be premiering next month. Take a look at the trailer here.
