Kehlani's upcoming While We Wait mixtape is set to arrive shortly. Now, the singer has come through with a new single, "RPG," featuring the perpetually laid-back 6LACK. Taking to lovely, yet slightly melancholic production, Kehlani sets it off over a descending piano progression. Putting her relationship under the microscope, Kehlani sits her partner in the hot seat, proceeding to lay it all on the table. "You told me I'm beautiful," she sings. "Cause I told you you don't tell me enough."
The song itself seems to draw from the "Role-Playing-Game" mythos, with Kehlani employing several references to gaming culture in her lyrics. "But you can pick a player just so I can get my way, and I think you do this ’cause you realize I won’t wait," she sings. "Don’t you think that we’re too old to play your game?" 6LACK follows suit, lamenting how he's been "been working with a lag, a fucked up past." As any gamer knows, lag is a scourge upon the ideal experience.
Quotable Lyrics
Don't you think that we're too old to play your game?
And we ain't go through all of this to stay the same
But you can pick a player just so I can get my way
And I think you do this 'cause you realize I won't wait
I see right through every look in your eyes
I hear right through every fairytale lie
Won't say a word, but the stories you write
