A couple of days ago marked seven years since the release of Kanye West's seminal 808s & Heartbreak album. Seven years later, we still see the impact and the influence of Yeezy's album daily. It seemed worthy enough to dedicate our Throwback Thursday record to a choice 808s & Heartbreak cut-- appropriately, one that features Lil Wayne, given that today (assuming no delays) we'll also receive No Ceilings 2.
Both Kanye and Wayne were experimenting with auto-tune quite frequently at this time, and the result of the two auto-tuners coming together over No I.D.'s string/synth-driven production was crazy. The song wasn't even released as a proper single, but it still managed to chart-- a feat that was more difficult before the rise of social media's influence on the charts.
