There's an internal investigation that's been launched within the Chicago Police Department. The influx of information that leaked to the media relating to Jussie Smollett's case has prompted officials to look into where their "vulnerabilities" lie.
A rep for the Chicago PD told TMZ the Chief Of Detectives opened an investigation due to concerns surrounding the police department was leaking information to the public. The Chicago PD says there's been a ton of "inaccurate" information surfacing in the media surrounding Smollett's case and now, they're trying to crack down on who the culprit is.
"When there are allegations of information being leaked, an internal investigation has been opened and we are also looking at our vulnerabilities," a spokesperson for the Chicago PD said.
The Chicago PD's faced tons of criticism for the way they've handled the Jussie Smollett case especially due to the amount of information that was being spread from police sources. The actor's lawyer, Mark Geragos, claimed the police force leaks were in an attempt to smear the actor's reputation.
"I think the cooperation of Smollett is precisely why they have these two [suspects]," Geragos told CNN. "I haven't seen anything except leaks according to law enforcement sources. To me, that screams out somebody that's trying to manipulate something."
Earlier today, the hospital where Jussie Smollett checked himself into after his alleged attack fired dozens of staff for unauthorized access to the actor's medical records.
