The alleged staged hate crime against Jussie Smollett has been a hot topic for months, causing many to speak out against the actor because of his actions. After an investigation by the Chicago Police, Smollett was found to have orchestrated the attack on himself, paying two brothers to jump him, pour bleach on him and tie a noose around his neck. The alleged reason as to why Jussie carried out the plan is because he was dissatisfied with his salary on Empire. With all the drama surrounding him and his legal situation, there has been talk of the show not continuing further, which has yet to be confirmed. This morning, Smollett appeared in court and it is now being reported that he has pleaded not guilty to 16 felony counts of disorderly conduct.
According to Deadline, the actor pleaded not guilty in front of the grand jury in Chicago today, shortly after he arrived at court. There will likely be further updates to come regarding Smollett and how his case will continue.
In court today, the actor has been given a new set of travel restrictions, being allowed to travel freely between New York and Los Angeles to meet with his lawyers. The next time he is due in court is April 17.
