Yesterday, the updates kept on pouring in regarding Jussie Smollett's confusing case. At first, he was being treated as the victim of a hate crime. It was believed that he was targeted because of his race and sexuality. However, it turns out that he actually set the entire thing up with his two attackers, the Osundairo brothers, as a way to hopefully cement his role and salary on Empire. Well, things have finally come full circle and Jussie will not be happy about the newest developments in his situation.
According to Complex, the actor has officially been cut from the final episodes of Empire. Executives from the series have issued a statement after Smollett met with his co-stars and producers yesterday. Unfortunately for Jussie, his actions have led Lee Daniels & Co. to cut his character Jamal entirely from the final episodes of Season 5.
"The events of the past few weeks have been incredibly emotional for all of us," wrote the Empire executives. "Jussie has been an important member of our EMPIRE family for the past five years and we care about him deeply. While these allegations are very disturbing, we are placing our trust in the legal system as the process plays out. We are also aware of the effects of this process on the cast and crew members who work on our show and to avoid further disruption on set, we have decided to remove the role of ‘Jamal’ from the final two episodes of the season."
Do you agree with the decision to cut him from the final episodes?
