Amber Heard, 32, filed for divorce from Johnny Depp, 55, in May 2016. This was only 15 months after the couple got married, with Amber citing “irreconcilable differences” as the reason for divorce. She told officials that Depp was a "drunken, paranoid, wine-bottle-flinging wife-beater."
In a new interview, Depp opens up about his relationship with Heard for the first time, and denies allegations that he ever beat his wife. Depp told GQ Magazine that he couldn't believe she would make up such a thing, "To harm someone you love? No, it didn’t, it couldn’t even sound like me." He told the publication, "Twenty-five feet away from her, how the fuck am I going to hit her? Which, by the way, is the last thing I would’ve done. I might look stupid, but I ain’t fucking stupid.”
The couple settled their divorce in 2017 after Depp agreed to pay around $7 million.
Depp goes on to say that it has definitely affected his standing in Hollywood, referring to himself as "Quasimodo" in the eyes of the industry. Even so, his main concern is how his kids will react: "I’m sure it wasn’t easy for my 14-year-old boy to go to school, you know what I mean? With people going, ‘Hey, look at this magazine, man. What, your dad beats up chicks or something?’ Why did he have to go through that? Why did my daughter have to go through that?"
