Jhene Aiko recently made a stop overseas as a guest on BBC Radio's 1Xtra Breakfast Show with Dotty in a segment in which the TRIP siren discussed everything from life lessons learned as a young mother, breaking into the music industry, and, naturally, her relationship with Big Sean.
During the discussion, Jhene opened up about the timeline of events that led to their union as we know it, dating their friendship as far back as 2012 when they first began collaborating musically.
"The year that my brother passed, I had just met him," she explained "And we worked on "Beware" and "I'm Gonna Be". He wanted to take me out on a date. I had a boyfriend, but I still went...just as a friend.
"I mean, I had never been courtside to a game," she jokingly added. "And he's cool. So, I told my boyfriend I'm gonna go to this game."
Jhene would go on to indicate that this instance coincided with the first wave of rumors linking her romantically with Big Sean. She would break up with her boyfriend shortly after, but not because of the rapper, but rather because her boyfriend at the time was secretly married, creating the schism that led to their split.
She went on to add that once she was ready to explore a relationship with Sean the first time around, the Double or Nothing rapper was already in a relationship, likely with his ex-fieancee Naya Rivera. As we all know, Sean would go on to date Ariana Grande and Jhene would go on to marry Dot da Genius before the couple's relationship actualized.
