As previously reported, Jay-Z has been prepping and planning a 6-part documentary to chronicle the life of Trayvon Martin leading up to his death at the hands George Zimmerman. We now have a release date and a teaser trailer to show forth.
Jay-Z has made a concerted effort out of representing social justice issues in his overture towards film. His other project, a collaboration with Harvey Weinstein, detailed the wrongful accusation of Kalief Browder, a teenager falsely convicted of theft and sent to Rikers Island where he was systematically broken down by prison life. Jay-Z has since tried to buy out Weinstein's shares in their film contract. The Weinstein Company having declared bankruptcy will hopefuly sit the rest out.
The documentary is based on Rest in Power: The Enduring Life of Trayvon Martin, biographical treatment as recalled by his parents, Sybrina Fulton and Tracy Martin. The series will debut in July.
