While several aspects of J. Cole's weekend interview with Angie Martinez surfaced recently creating an anticipation for the full talk to be released to the public, we didn't need to wait very long as the full interview has now become available. Enjoying the success of his most recent album K.O.D., Cole is arguably in the most important stage of his career as he has an insane amount of attention on him. While he has consistently been one of the top figures in the rap world, Cole has cemented himself at the forefront by surpassing Drake and breaking plenty of streaming records with K.O.D. In Miami for his headlining performance at Rolling Loud, the "ATM" rapper spoke with radio personality Angie Martinez for an hour and a half about all things pertaining to the elusive piece of work.
Touching on the main talking points surrounding K.O.D., Cole revealed that kiLL Edward, the only featured guest on the album, is indeed himself as we all knew. The rapper noted that Edward is his step-father's name, detailing the abuse he has encountered at his hands and the mistreatment of his mother. Shutting down many people's dreams, Cole also refuted claims that Kendrick Lamar and himself are actively working on a collaborative album, saying that, years ago, the two did have plans to work together musically and recorded several songs but that, right now, there are no current plans for an album. While he doesn't exactly confirm that a collab project will never happen, it doesn't sound like we should expect it anytime soon.
Cole keeps his energy up throughout the talk, continually dropping facts and keeping us interested. Watching the interview, what is the biggest takeaway in your eyes?
