Idris Elba is taking two of his passions and combining them. Most people identify Elba as an actor. He's played some of the most legendary roles in film and television. From Heimdall in Thor, to Stringer Bell in The Wire, and Nelson Mandela in Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom, Elba has been gracing fans with immaculate performances for years. What is less known is that Elba's love for music is just as strong as his passion for acting. He is a DJ who has spun at several prestigious events, including the Glastonbury Festival, and now he is mixing his music with his acting.
As reported by Variety, Netflix has ordered a comedy series starring Elba entitled Turn Up Charlie. The story is based around a struggling DJ named Charlie (Elba), who enjoys the bachelor life. At the end of his wits, Charlie is finally given a shot at stardom when he is offered a job as a babysitter to his famous friend's wild child daughter. He reluctantly takes the manny job, hoping it will lead to better things.
Turn Up Charlie is co-created by Elba and producer Gary Reich, and the first season will feature eight 30 minute episodes. Production will begin in May.
