For years, Idris Elba has been pushed to the front of the line by fans of the James Bond franchise as the next 007. Fan castings don't always happen, but it looks like this may be one of the rare circumstances where fandom and Hollywood connect. According to The Independent UK, Bond franchise producer Barbara Broccoli claims that the "door is open" for a Black James Bond once Daniel Craig abandons the role. Craig will play Bond one last time in the still untitled Bond 25 flick, although he has infamously tried to get out of the role in the past.
Antoine Fuqua, who has admitted to working on a script for a Bond film before, recently told The Daily Star that he had a conversation with Broccoli. He claims that she believes “it is time” for a Black Bond, and he also added, “Idris could do it if he was in shape. You need a guy with physically strong presence. Idris has that.” Fuqua is known for his legendary work on Training Day, The Equalizer, The Magnificent Seven, and Southpaw.
Upon hearing that Elba is in the frontrunning to play Bond next, the internet shared their opinions. Casting aside the racist profiles that don't realize make-believe characters do not have an obligation to any historical background, the response was very positive.
