If you're not in tune with the golden content that Celebrity Deathmatch brought us during its first run on MTV, you may be lucky enough to be witnessing its rebirth. The show originally aired from 1998 to 2002 and MTV tried to bring it back a few years ago, eventually giving up on the plans. Now that Ice Cube is involved, it appears as though the series is getting a reboot as MTV Studios announced that the series is officially back on.
According to Variety, MTV Studios is teaming up with Ice Cube and the show's original creator Eric Fogel to bring back Celebrity Deathmatch. Conversations are still in the opening stages as the series is still looking for a permanent home. However, things may be facilitated with Cube on board. MTV Studios has stated that, with the new project, they plan to "reimagine [Celebrity Deathmatch] … for a new generation."
The President of MTV issued the following statement: "’Deathmatch’ was the meme before memes, remains a hot topic on social media and will be a smart, funny way to tackle the over-the-top rhetoric of today’s pop culture where it belongs – in the wrestling ring." Ice Cube is also set to star in the reboot. Will you be tuning in?
