Last year, Hodgy dropped his debut studio album Fireplace: TheNotTheOtherside. It was an exciting moment considering that he spent years on the Odd Future roster releasing mixtapes and EP's, both as a solo artist and as a member of MellowHype and MellowHigh. Today, he comes through with his introspective new song "I'll Be Good."
Hodgy gets personal on his latest track. It's a reflective effort from Hodgy where he opens up about some of the darkest points in his life. It's an interesting song in the sense that he's speaking about this time in retrospect. On the hook, he sounds like he accepted those moments and has taken those as lessons to be the person he is today. "Part of the process/ Mistakes are part of the process," he raps on the song. He said on Twitter that the song was recorded over two years ago during some of the darkest periods of his life. It's nice that it finally gets the opportunity to see the light of day.
The single also came with a video. The video consists of Hodgy reflecting on life from a hospital waiting room. It later shows Hodgy rapping to the camera while surrounded by duplicates of himself. While he raps, the doppelgangers around him are smoking, drinking, chilling and overall, representing certain vices one may indulge in while they are their low point. The video was shot by Sean Stanton and Juan Felipe Zuleta. Stanton's previously worked with Hodgy in the past and continues to prove that he's able to bring the best out of him on camera.
With the release of "I'll Be Good," hopefully we receive more music from him in the future. He's been relatively quiet for the majority of this year so this could very well be a sign that he got something up his sleeve.
