The story that is rocking the world this morning is of the mass shooting that took place in Las Vegas last night (October 1st), during the Route 91 music festival. In the middle of a performance from country music singer Jason Aldean, a shooter opened fire on the unsuspecting crowd from the balcony of his hotel room, leaving at least 50 dead and over 400 injured at last count. The shooter, a 64-year-old man named Stephen Paddock, was killed during the ensuing chaos, but it is not clear if he did the deed himself or if he was shot by a member of the Las Vegas law enforcement that rushed to the scene.
It is yet another chapter in the sad saga of events that has engulfed the United States in recent months. Many members of the hip-hop community took to Twitter to express their shock and heartbreak at the events that unfolded in Vegas over the last 24 hours. Some also used the opportunity to call out politicians for their lax attitudes on gun control, especially those who have facilitated the work of pro-gun lobbyists and the creation of protective legislation.
