Today, John Singleton's family made the difficult decision to take the director off life support, issuing an emotional statement: "It is with heavy hearts we announce that our beloved son, father and friend, John Daniel Singleton will be taken off life support today. This was an agonizing decision, one that our family made, over a number of days, with the careful counsel of John's doctors." While Singleton has yet to be declared dead, many in the hip-hop community have come forward to pay respects, sharing stories about their experiences with the iconic director.
Snoop Dogg was among the first, penning a heartfelt message in Singleton's honor. "Thank you for all that you gave to the world the movies the messages the opportunities to so many people like myself to grace the big screen in a major role with major black actors," writes the Doggfather, praising Singleton's visionary nature. "You were and will always be black excellence love you for life and beyond."
Juicy J shared a snippet of his conversation with Singleton, in which ambitions for a Three Six Mafia biopic were discussed. "This is me & @johnsingletonon text in 2017 talking about doing a three six mafia biopic," he writes. "If this would had happened we would have won another Oscar for Best Picture."
