2017 has been a solid year for Gucci Mane, on both a musical and an entrepreneurial tip. First, Guwop teamed up with Metro Boomin' for DropTopWop, which remains one of my personal favorite albums this year. Next, he secured a bag from BET for a reality show centered on his upcoming wedding with Keyshia Ka'oir. Now, the East Atlanta Santa has confirmed that two new artists have been officially signed to his label 1017 records - Atlanta rappers Hoodrich Pablo Juan and Lil Wop.
In case you didn't know, 1017 Records (also known as 1017 Eskimo) was founded by Gucci back in 2007, upon the rapper's first deal with Mizay records. Now, the label is currently home to Waka Flocka Flame, OJ da Juiceman, Chief Keef, Lex Luger, Zaytoven and more. Basically, if you're an up-and-coming Atlanta rapper, 1017 is somewhat of a holy grail. Congrats to Hoodrich Pablo Juan and Lil Wop for landing a deal with one of Atlanta's most iconic emcees.
Gucci officially made the announcement on his Instagram feed, posting an image of both artists alongside a congratulatory message. As far as the signees are concerned, Hoodrich initially popped off with his Designer Drugz mixtape, and his most recent project South Dark dropped on August 8th (a collaboration with the appropriately named Kenny Beats). Lil Wop is actually an associate of Trippie Redd, who also happens to be making waves. Wop most recently dropped his WakeNBake mixtape, as well as a collaboration with Kodie Shane called "Full Clip."
Ultimately, it's really no surprise if you think about it. Gucci Mane is pretty much consistently making moves, and this latest label expansion proves that Guwop keeps his ear to the scene. Props to Gucci for holding it down for Atlanta rappers, and the sense of community really explains why the ATLiens are pretty much running the game right now.
For more Gucci Mane, why not revist some of DropTopWop's finest bangers, like "Met Gala" or "Hurt A N*gga Feelings?"
