There's a whole platoon of Atlanta rappers of producers who were present in abundance during the transition of snap to trap music, and swag era in between. The debate on who made the definitive stroke, from a historical perspective, is still contested to this day.
Gucci Mane jumped on Instagram posting a picture of himself during his Guwop heyday. The picture depicted him in his general glut, with several chains jockeying for position on his chest and his abdomen. Below the caption made reference to several scene specific taglines, but most importantly raised the often debated question of who, if anyone in particular, invented trap music?
Unabashedly, Gucci Mane believes that with his big label debut Trap House, he effectively invented the Trap genre in 2005. This statement contradicts what he had told Angie Martinez in a radio interview last year, making similar claims but referencing his 2013 mixtape Trap Muzik as the main culprit instead.
Gucci has been busy finalizing two projects set to drop this month, the group compilation 1017 Eskimo Presents: Eskimo Boys Vol. 1, and his joint effort with Migos and Lil Yachty titled Glacier Boyz. The latter is slated for April 13.
There's no question Gucci figures at the origin of debate. For one thing, he was one of the first rappers to use the term "Trap" as a nomenclature.
