We had been anticipating the release of Playboi Carti’s debut album for a while now since we heard it was all done back in March, but thankfully last Friday that wait came to an end when Carti surprised fans with the new album Die Lit. The 19-track project, which featured guest appearances from Nicki Minaj, Lil Uzi Vert, Young Thug, Bryson Tiller, Gunna & more, saw a mixed reaction from fans, but it appears its first week sales projections aren’t reflecting that.
Although its early, HitsDoubleDaily reports that Die Lit is expected to move anywhere from 64K-69K streams, with 5-6K being straight purchases. Those numbers will be good enough to land him the #3 spot on the charts, following Post Malone & P!NK. In comparison though, Carti’s self-titled project from last Summer only sold 28K units in the opening week, over doubling his latest roll out, which is a good sign this time around.
Carti wasn't the only artist to release a new album last week however. In addition, Detroit's Tee Grizzley also released his debut album last week called Activated, but that didn't do too well commercially. HDD reports Activated will move about 28-31K units in the opening, with 4-5K being straight sales.
While these numbers could go up or down, HDD is usually spot on with their projections so it's a pretty safe to assume these numbers will stick. We'll continue to keep you posted once the final numbers are in, but in the meantime revisit both Activated & Die Lit to hold you over.
