It has been one of the only things keeping us entertained during the quarantine and, thankfully, the next installment has just been announced. It was a long time overdue but, finally, the first all-female Verzuz battle will be taking place in a matter of days as the ever-talented Erykah Badu and Jill Scott go head-to-head in a celebration of the culture.
An announcement was made this morning by Swizz Beatz and Timbaland, who have carefully been organizing each Verzuz battle.
"It’s time for the Queens to represent," wrote Swizz. "@erykahbadu vs @missjillscott the paper work is in @timbaland."
The battle will officially take place on May 9 and the timing was strategic from the organizers. That is the day before Mother's Day and what's a better way to celebrate black feminity in music than by having Erykah Badu and Jill Scott, two absolute greats, duke it out for our enjoyment. The culture doesn't deserve this.
This is just the latest in a string of head-to-heads that have taken place on Verzuz. The first saw Timbaland and Swizz Beatz match-up, which inspired them to get everybody else involved. One of the biggest rumors is that Diddy and Dr. Dre will eventually meet on Instagram Live, but that is yet to be confirmed.
