While both Drake and The Weeknd have enjoyed long and lucrative careers as solo artists, the fans know they have a musical chemistry that works wonders. In fact, Abel has previously told Zane Lowe that he would be open for a collaboration with Drake, comparing the potential joint endeavor to Watch The Throne, the acclaimed brainchild of Kanye and Jay-Z. Seeing as The Weeknd and Drake are two of the biggest artists in the world, the album would inevitably break at least one streaming records.
Well, fans might not have to wait much longer. At Drake's star-studded OVO Fest, Aubrey and Abel joined forces to perform “Starboy,” “The Hills,” and “Crew Love," the track that basically started it all. After the performance, Drake basically pulled the "we should hang out more" card, much to the delight of the sold-out crowd.
“I want you to understand what this is,” begins Drizzy. “First of all, I don’t want to do this to you on stage, but I feel like that OVOXO project has to happen at some point. I just want to say that.”
The crowd responds as you'd expect, with riotous applause. Ultimately, nothing may come of this at all, but at least both parties acknowledged that they're willing and able to make it happen. Check out footage of the pseudo-announcement below.
