Scorpion season has arrived, and with such a lengthy offering, fans are no doubt still gathering their thoughts. Though dubbing a clear highlight feels premature, sometimes, it's best to simply give in to instinct. Upon initial listens, Side A's second track "Nonstop" feels like an obvious standout, with an infectious, minimalist beat from No I.D, Tay Keith, and Noel Cadastre. Cut from the same cloth as Take Care's classic "The Motto," Drizzy's Bay Area inspired banger is driven by a relentless bassline, and not much else. Sometimes, the fewer elements the better.
As for Drizzy, the bars continue to come effortless for the 6ix God, who opts for boss mode for this one. "And you know it’s King Slime Drizzy damn," raps Drake, she just said I'm bae, I hit the thizzle dance. Mac Dre shit, damn." Though his flow may appear simple at first, it's actually strategically restrained; he knows full well it's the "flow to get the block hot." As such, the strength of "Nonstop" sets the tone for a strong Side A, and once again solidifies Drake as an honorary Bay Area representative.
Peep Scorpion, and sound off with your early favorites. Were ya'll feeling "Nonstop?"
Quotable Lyrics
They’ll be mournin' you like 8AM
Pinky ring 'til I get a wedding ring
Love my brothers, cut 'em in on anything
And you know it’s King Slime Drizzy damn
She just said I'm bae, I hit the thizzle dance (Mac Dre shit, damn)
Either hand is the upper hand
Got a bubble on my other hand
This shit ain't no hundred bands
